MATERIALS
1. PIPE - Only pipe and fittings approved by KNG can
be used.
Polyethylene plastic pipe approved by KNG that meets the
requirements
of ASTM specifications D2513 MUST be used for gas service
piping. We
require that you use 6500 series, medium density, yellow
polyethylene
pipe designated by ASTM on the pipe as PE2406. All
service fittings
must be rated by the manufacturer to operate at 100 psig
minimum.
Normal
residential service line is sized at 1" CTS.
2. FITTINGS - The service line and all mechanical
joints installed on the
plastic pipe must be made by qualified personnel using
qualified
procedures.
Federal regulations
prohibit the installation of
fittings on
plastic pipe by
non-qualified personnel.
3. TRACER WIRE - Number 12 solid copper tracer wire must be
installed
in the same trench parallel to the plastic pipe for future locating of
the line.
4. RISER - Only Perfection brand risers are
permitted. NORMAC RISERS
WILL NOT BE ALLOWED. Perfection
risers may be purchased from KNG
Energy. The riser should be approximately
1 ½ feet to the left of the opening
of your internal piping for the meter
setting to fit between them.
5. INTERNAL PIPING - House line must be a minimum of
1" Black Pipe
up to the first appliance. HOUSE LINE MUST BE WRAPPED
OR
SLEEVED THROUGH THE WALL. (See National Fuel Gas Code
Handbook Section
3.2)
INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
DO NOT INSTALL RISER UNLESS CERTIFIED BY KNG OR UTI.
MECHANICAL CERTIFICATION IS VALID FOR 12 MONTHS.
1. YOU MUST HAVE THE GAS MAIN LOCATED BEFORE TRENCHING
IS
STARTED. To have gas piping located, along with other underground
facilities that may be buried in the vicinity of where you plan to dig, you must
call the Ohio Utilities Protection Service (OUPS) at least two (2) working
days
in advance. The telephone number for OUPS is 1-800-362-2764.
2. Service pipe and tracer wire must be installed in a
trench that is
separate from other utilities. The trench must be graded
uniformly,
sloped toward the main where practicable with a minimum depth of
18".
The service pipe must be installed within two (2) feet from the
main line
with a minimum of three (3) feet left sticking out of the
ground. If the main
line falls between the road and a sidewalk, you must bring the service line
under the sidewalk. If the service line is to run
parallel with any building
structure, it must be five (5) feet away from that
structure.
3. DO NOT wrap tracer wire around the service line.
Bring the tracer
wire above ground and wrap around the riser bracket.
Allow sufficient
tracer wire to wrap around the gas main at the street end.
4. The wall bracket is to be placed above ground level on
the the riser
with valve on the meter set twelve inches above finished
grade. Attach
the wall bracket so meter setting is at least three (3) feet
away from any
door, electric meter, or other opening. For safety purposes,
the meter
setting should be located as far away as possible from windows.
Do not
locate meter setting under any first story window or other opening.
The wall
bracket cannot be attached to the flexible part of the riser.
5. All interior piping and appliance installation must
conform to
manufacturers installation procedures and National Fuel Gas Code
Handbook.
